To improve the mental health of Jacksonville residents through citywide efforts that encourage mental health: and enhance interventions targeting prevention, detection, and treatment of mental illness.

Vision
Improve the quality of life for all people in Jacksonville by: reducing the morbidity and mortality due to mental illness; and eliminating mental health disparities.

Membership and Purpose
This coalition will be comprised of healthcare and community representatives from the public and private sectors who will work together to develop and implement a strategic plan for the City of Jacksonville to achieve the Healthy People 2010 Mental Health Objectives.


Healthy People 2010 Objectives

Mental Health Status Improvement
1. Reduce the suicide rate.
    Year 2010 Target: 5.0 suicides per 100,000  population.
    Year 1999: 11.7 suicides per 100,000 population.
    Year 2000: 13.1 suicides per 100,000 population.

2. Reduce the rate of suicide attempts by adolescents.
    Year 2010 Target: 12 month average of 1 percent.

3. Reduce the proportion of homeless adults who have serious mental illness (SMI).
    Year 2010 Target:  19 percent.

4. Increase the proportion of persons with serious mental illness (SMI) who are employed.
    Year 2010 Target:  51 percent. 

5. (Developmental)  Increase the number of persons seen in primary health care who receive mental health screening and assessment.

6. (Developmental)  Increase the proportion of children with mental health problems who receive treatment.

7. (Developmental)  Increase the proportion of juvenile justice facilities that screen new admissions for mental health problems.

8. Increase the proportion of adults with mental disorders who receive treatment.
